Sofia Belén is a yoga teacher and elementary PE and dance/yoga teacher. She graduated from The Yoga Room's 500hr 2 year teacher training program in 2014, and earlier completed a 300hr teacher training from Yogea Arts in New York City. She has a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah and utilizes the kinesiology, anatomy, and movement learning from that education in each yoga class.In Sofia's class you can expect to learn some anatomy as it relates to the beauty of the movements and stillnesses in asanas (yoga poses). Classes use props and verbal modifications which can lead to deepening or easing the movement practice, depending on individual needs.
Sofia draws inspiration from her teachers, including NYC's Alison West and Witold Fitz Simon, and Berkeley's Ada Lusardi, Mary Lou Weprin, and Gay White. She is in the process of a certification for Yoga for Scoliosis with Elise Miller. She has also taught as a certified instructor for Eat, Breathe, Thrive, a non profit organization that provides yoga instruction and mindfulness techniques to individuals with eating disorders.
